Information on Company Register’s inquiry of the Legal Entity Identifier (LEI)

Pursuant to Art. 22 Para. 1 of the Transparency Guideline 2004/109/EC, the ESMA has established technical regulation standards, according to which the Company Register is required to request the LEI of the concerned company when transmitting documents.

Beyond that, according to Art. 7 of the Delegated Regulation (EU) 2016/1437, starting 1.1.2017, it is the duty of issuers to disclose the LEI when submitting documents to the Company Register.

If your company does not yet have an LEI, you can apply for it at one of the following international issuing agencies, but also at the Legal Entity Identifier Register (LEIReg) of the Bundesanzeiger Verlag (Publisher of the Federal Gazette) at www.leireg.de.

Worldwide, the LEI is a valid identification number for an independent legal entity on the financial market, which helps to clearly identify every contractual partner and every financial transaction. It was introduced at the initiative of the G20, in order to increase transparency in international financial transactions. The LEI can enhance internal risk management and facilitate the implementation of compliance requirements.
